Took my buddy's new 200/ME ('67 convertible) combination out driving today. Noticed some smoke on the highway but wrote it off as rings still seating. A few minutes later I thought I heard a little noise from the engine. We slowed down, realised the engine was making a knocking noise. The oil pressure was falling also. By the time we got off the highway we discovered that the engine had lost almost all it's oil. We didn't see any obvious problem, so filled it with oil and fired it. Turns out someone had left an oil filter seal on and installed a new oil filter and seal on top of it. It finally let go. I removed the extra seal, filled it again, and we drove it home - knocking and tapping prety badly.
I'm guessing that the rocker arms are toast (roller tipped ones too). We are crossing out fingers that we didn't loose any bearings. We will have time to open it up next week.
