All Small Six 82 3.3 terrible MPG, cheap header options for smog delete?

It smokes like this from the second it starts til its shut down. This was after letting it warm up for 30 mins. Guess the rings would explain why I've seen no mpg improvement gutting the cat aswell.

Yes that's a shame, but can't hold your plan against you. . .If the exhaust had extreme backpressure for an extended time, that will blow out the rings. The heat trapped in the cylinders is way up there, over 1000* and all that being compressed against the piston and rings on exhaust stroke is a killer. .

Theres still some out there lookin to do what we have (machine, rebuild, etc

been compression tested?
any ignition then carb tune done?

wont a dry then wet compression tests inform U if it’s rings.
Ie: low/no comp on dry, squirt the oil, wait 20 min, chk comp again & get hi or near correct comp readings ?
