Distributor shaft size

Hello,
I was looking into upgrading my ignition system, the question is- I have a 63futura w/170/2.77 and I am not sure the size of the shaft. I read on CI that the earlier 144/170's have a 1/4in hex drive. Obviously I need to know this to order my distiibutor, and was wondering if there is anyway to tell the size, without actually pulling out the exsisting distrbutor. :help:

Sorry the only way to know for sure is to pull it .

If you look at the engine code numbers next to starter you may get the info to verify . Numbers should read: C3DE or similar. The C= 1960's, the 3 (or any other) indicates year of engine design. An early engine C0DE , C1DE , c3DE (1960-63) definitely used small (1/4"?) drive shaft, and a C7DE 1967) and up would definitely would have larger (5/16?) shaft - years between still probably best to pull distrib' to verify 8) ...
