Dividing the "log"

Okay, I've talked enough about doing it! So, this weekend...I am going to TRY and divide the "log" on my '78 200 into seperate plenum chambers - two to be exact.

My thinking is this...(because I cannot weld)

Block off the existing single valve carburetor opening. Drill and tap the block off plate to accept a 5/8" or 3/4" dia. bolt (s.s. of course). Fasten the bolt to the plate so that the bolt threads set inside of the "log". This will divide the log intake into two intake plenums but allowing enough balance for proper vacuum distribution.

Will this work?

First, what kind of carburetion are you running again?

You will get a lot of airflow around such a small bolt. The oppening below the carb is closer to 2" or better so a big bolt in the middle still won't do much.

shold work all right...are u gonna do 2 1bbls? even if it doesnt work all that well, since u havent ground or welded anything then your only down a few bucks for the metal (which is small enough that u could probably just use scraps from somewhere)...if that doesnt work then maybe try grinding slots for the plates to slide in and weld it up...even if the weld doesnt take to the cast iron, at least u have still reduced the leak quite a bit. try it out and tell us how it goes...and yes! tell us your carb stup as well.

don't worry about the weld not taking to cast iron as I have welded stainless steel on my cast iron head.you'll see pictures when I'm done.

mig/flux core and I set the wire feed on 3 1/2 and the power setting on Lown number 2 hooked up to 110v.Nice clean welds and the cast iron will break before the weld will.Used a 2lb spool of .035 diameter flux core wire.
