Well guys, I think I'm wimping out. I'm taking my engine to the local engine shop for rebuilding. I wanted to do it myself, but im still worried I'll mess something up. They also seem like they will do a thorough job, for a pretty good price. Anyway, they are only going to rebuild the block and head. I'll need do redo all the gaskets and such. I cant even find a place on the internet with a listing of everything that is in the kit, so I dont even know what I'll need.

Also, recommendations on the brand. Fel-Pro, Sealed Power... etc.

Thanks guys for everything.

Master engine kit from Northern Auto Parts is what I have used twice and been satisfied. It includes everything; pistons, rings, cam, lifters, timing, oil pump, all bearings, plug kit for the block, gasket set. They have Sealed Power, Federal Mogul, Melling, Victor Rentz stuff in their kit. On top of that I would buy new valve springs (for example NAP sells Comp Cams springs for about $40 per set if they are sturdy enough for your application) and freeze plugs for the head (prolly your machinist have those).

NAP is flexible too as you can upgrade things in the master kit. Last time I upgraded the kit with Comp Cams 260H cam, Comp cams timing chain and Sealed Power flat top pistons (2.3L HSC stuff) and they just calculated some additional price on top of it.

Master kit there costs about $327. My upgraded kit was about $400. Enjoy the overhaul.
