Dream motor time

ok so I am taking a real job for a change so I will have more then $500 to spend on a motor for a change. I have a spare 200 ready to rebuild and looking for ideas on teh motor. I woul dlike to go with a forged piston and aftermarket rod motor and since these are custom items I would like to stretch the rods out as long as I can (not getting into button type pistons though that are stupid short)

also I am looking at EFI on one of mikes new heads. so as far as a throttle I am trying to figure out what to run for that. and as far as a cam I am open on that (obviously a new grind from mike to match the head) the motor stuff I don't think will be too bad but trying to select a turbo for this. I have the dual saab IC core almost ready so was planning on just keeping that in the car (hidden anyways)

I will need a header since there is not enough room in the car currently for a larger turbine so I guess I might hit the CAD drawing board and get working on a steam fitting header (divided collector on it for say a dual scroll) but trying to figure out what turbo to run. I am shooting for a 400hp motor on this and money is almost no limit right now (for the sake of arguement)

so what should a dream EFI turbo 200 look like?

400 HP shouldn't be a problem with an aluminum head, Mega Squirt, a 214* @ .050" cam, and a GT-40R (thereaboubts) turbo

Probably more than 400 hp.....you'll need a really strong trans and rear end upgrade. And a BIG fuel system.

Trying to save a little money? Anyhting T-61 to T-72 will work, or you can look at more low-tech examples like 62-1 or an H-3.... a holset HX40 will get you close, too.

well I will know for sure how much money I will have to put towards it...

but looks like the car is getting totally ripped apart for a few years for a complete restore (new quarters, custom suspension I got drawn up and all) so figured I would start getting a motor combo figured out to start working on over the next few years as things progress. I am not saying money is no object....but things within reason (not having a alloy block cast for this car :P )

it is within reason....

I am moving to the poorest part of the state next month.....making almost double the MEDIAN HOUSEHOLD income....

I will prob be spending more on gas then rent.....

so I think I can swing a couple weeks pay for a turbo later on down the road....

how fast do you want to spend?

well slow progress on the "dream motor" but came into some parts to get started on a "day dream motor"

I picked up a set of low imp 35# injectors (6)
EDIS bits with 36-1 wheel for a crank triggered ignition (and running the megasquirt)
some AN fittings on sale from summit
a stock 5.0L fuel rail to donate rail parts for my port injection setup (injector cups, ford regulator mounting) and a malory adjustable regulator for a stock 5.0L

on the topper..... a turbonetics t3/t4 with a .63 trim exhaust and a .57 trim compressor and a 38mm TiAl wastegate. not going for the BIG number yet but these parts should put me closer to it all.

that turbo may be a bit on the small side?? the new head is going to flow alot more, then again, you should be able to make a low boost pretty quick with that if you aren't going for crazy boost numbers, just may not be the most efficient.

this turbo will mostly be going on my direct mount port injection head I am working on right now. This motor will still be a log headed machine and will only have enough injector on it for about 300HP. I think the TO4 .57 trim compressor will be more than enough for that right now...esp when compared to my current .60 trim T3 compressor. never hurts to have a few different sized turbos on hand :P I would rather dial in my combo on a properly sized turbo and then once dialed in move up to a larger one and more boost in steps. Also remember this is gonig into a driver and not a track car so I would like to be able to build boost at lower RPM's
