Dreaming up another SB six EFI option here....

As a guy who has used Megasquirt, I know the benefits and tuneablity are pretty much unbeatable for these engines, however the tuneability can be a pain for somebody just getting into the EFI thing and a plug and play method would go over real good with a lot of people.

What if a guy was to take a SBF CFI unit from a Crown vic or T-bird or something, keep the two 42lb-46lb injectors, and run the EFI with a MAF 3.0 computer that was easily obtainable from the JY?

Being that some MAF 3.0 computers were batch fired, it would be easy to run each injector bank to one injector instead of 3 injectors. And wire in a couple of resistors to essentially turn the low inpeadence injectors into high impeadence injectors.
Then you would adjust the fuel pressure accordingly at the FPR.

I believe this setup would yield an almost complete plug and play result.

Looking for some input before I do this to my fairmont.... before I MS it.

I have not yet seen or even read about (except in a sales brochure) any plug and play EFI system for an engine that did not have it as a factory option. Even if the engine had an efi option you still may not have a good way to account for the rest of the car. Things like the shift points and rear end ratios effect where the cruise and power bands need to be. I do wish they existed because tuning a system its a pain in the butt. If it works be sure to let us know.

8) any after market efi system is going to need tuning to get the fuel and ignition(if controlled by the computer) curves right anyway. even if you adapted a factory system to our little sixes, it would still need tuning to dial in the system.

Yeah, an off-the-shelf system might get the engine running, but it's almost certain to be less than optimally tuned for Ford's small six.

Were talking MAF on a similar displacement engine here. Now obviously a stock six doesnt have nearly the VE that the 3.0 has, but a warmed over, cammed 6 I think would have a similar VE to a stock 3.0 and would work quite well. Not to mention the adaptability of the MAF system. Minor adjustments can be made with fuel pressure much like the Factory Stock mustang guys have to deal with in drag racing. My dads truck has a 5.8 that we replaced the 5.0 with and its running beautifully on the stock MAF 5.0 computer.

I bet the system would work great. It would be worth a try I think.
