Okay so i get the 78 T-bird 4 cyl T-5 bolted to the Adapter to the 2.77 bell which is bolted to the 78 200. Got the 62 2.77 pressure plate with the 83 4 cyl clutch and the 69 6cyl. throwout bearing and the pilot shaft bearing of unknown parentage. Got the t-bird crossmember under there, attaching to the subframe connecters looks easy enough.
So now just for spits and grin lets see what the 87 t-bird driveshaft looks like under there. Well it's a fuzz short maybe 3/4" from what I'd like. So I take an impression of the rear end yoke and the driveshaft to the manhine shop and say --"hey man can you make me an adapter about 3/4" thick?" He looks through a pile of steel scrap and comes up with a slice of cold rolled that is 3/4" thick and a perfect 5" circle. He says come back in a couple hours. He carefully drilled and tapped 8 holes and drilled all existing holes in flanges to the next true size matching the adaptor's holes, and VIOLA driveshaft slid in tranny and bolted to rear end in stock form. Get a few things tightened up and get er out and see how it does this week. If it works out - may have a whole new method of dealing with driveshafts--already balanced with off the shelf u-joints and a nice fat driveshaft of a stock length.
