Dual Out pipe diameter ???

hey, tommy, Nat'l Parts Depot has stock brackets for dual exhaust systems that attach behind the back seat where the body goes up to go over the rear end, don't have the part number handy, but you can see it in their catalog. got two holes in it, i just drilled through the body panel behind the seat back and thru-bolted the bracket, goobered it up with silicone so it wouldn't leak. it's a muffler bracket with two holes on the lower end, you'd have to adapt a clamp to that. anyway, gets you out of welding something. you can also buy the stock pieces to get you all the way to the back if those fumes are coming into the interior from under the car....

I just got home and headed straight to the garage. I measured seven different sets, all are 2". Actually with the caliper, they were anywhere from 2.000 to 2.002

So my next thought, if you are not able to measure the header pipe, then obviously you are not able to measure the exhaust pipe either. Are you sure it is the right size? Possibly it's 2.25" ???

I think the next step is to buy a set of cheap plastic calipers and verify the pipe size on each. Or make a GO - NO GO gauge from a block of wood (1x4) and check.

I will say that if the headers are not 2", then you are welcome to send them back and I will replace them. You need to verify the sizes of both pipes first, but it is possible they are a mis-made set with smaller pipes.

Mike,
Definitely not 2" out. I know this as the Summit 2" butt joint clamp fits great on the rest of the exhaust (2' pipe). see pics above of 2" clamp fitting loosely on header and tight on muffler pipe. I'll get some calipers and measure them.
The muffler shop welded them on. Not what I would have preferred. One of those shops that sort of does what you ask but goes off on their own program on occasion. I was upset abou the ceramic coating, too, but couldn't do too much at that point.
I probably will have to use some kind of slip reducer in there.
Probably won't send them back as you'd lose money. I'm not concerned with the coating at the very end as much as the fit. I like them and know you'd probably not be able to use them again.
I need to get two slip reducers.

Don't worry about what it would cost me. I'm sure Pacemaker would cover the repalcement set. Not sure about the coating and shipping cost though.

My main concern is a :D HAPPY :D customer. I've built a solid reputation by selling only the best quality parts (I can find), and by standing behind them 100%.

If I were you, I'd go back to the muffler shop and have them give you something in writting. In which they would cover the cost of a recoat should the headers ever require it. They should no better than to weld coated headers. I doubt it will be a problem, but it does set up the opportunity for rust to set in down the road. Cover your A**.

That would look cheesy. And probably leak.

You can get 2" ID flanges from any muffler shop, JC whitney, and probably Jeg's and Summit too.

Ran into the same problem when I had my exhaust done at a local shop. The header ends weren't exactly 2" wide and the clamps I bought from Jeg's were to large. I was going to put 2"pipes but uped to 2 1/4" because of the problem. We talked over the possibilites but came up with an exhaust system in pieces and cutting the header down a tad. Though it isn't the greatest, I have to deal with it. Here's some pics of my hookups.

Here's a long shot looking down the header to the pipes

Here's the sectional piece that was added. Its there just incase the transmissions has to come out. It looks kind of "racey" to me.

So you slid the header pipes inside the exhaust piping and just clamped it down? That may be what I have to do.

So you went with 2 1/4" pipe to get a good fit?

I'll probably make two cuts similar to yours downstream if I ever pull the tranny. I got the 2 clamps just sitting on the work bench. :)
