dui problem

Fabion, you maybe frustrated trying to figure this out, I or someone else maybe frustrated trying to help, but it will do no good if you or we can't exercise some patience.

Again, no offense, but you started trying the install by pulling the ignition switch, which is making a mountain out of a mole hill IMO. Earlier in this thread you said you had TDC figured out but then later you said it was 180*...we've been there done that before, with the old dizzy...remember

Not trying to get on you, but you have to see it for what it is...if the install kinda went the wrong direction in the beginning, we can either figure it out and get it done...or give up.

I remember its just that I 2 projects going on. I haven't been able 2 drive my car because my steering box is shot but usually when stuff like this happen I always seem to pull through I just got to think. Oh yeah spring so I got to get her ready guess I just need to take a chill pill and think

I hope I'm not adding to the confusion. Fabion, I really want to help you.

I have a 67 Mustang as well. All I did was take the hot wire that was running to my original coil and put it on the DUI. I know its late to be asking, but did you try that?

I do not have a relay, a splice to a pink wire or anything else. Just took the wire that was on the + side of my coil and ran it to the DUI. Here's a pic:

It was a black wire coming out of the harness. I just connected to the DUI wire I purchased from Jegs that had the proper clip on it for connecting to the distributor.

This is all I had to do with my DSII swap to get power.

The "pink wire" that has been mentioned is the feed for the old coil from the ignition switch. If you look at the second page of the wiring diagram VinMan posted: http://midlife66.com/wiring/67MUST.ZIP
(look at the first connector top left of page and see where the red/green wire that goes to the coil, comes off the pink wire that goes to the ignition).

The 'pink wire' is an oem ballast/resistor wire, that will not feed 12+ volts required by the dui for 'complete rpm operation'

From: http://classicinlines.com/DUI_install.asp
"Your new DUI distributor requires a full alternator voltage. For those converting from a breaker point distributor, as in most cases, you must eliminate any ballast resistor or OEM resistance wiring to supply full alternator voltage. For full RPM operation, the DUI distributor requires
14.5 volts. "

From everything I've seen/read here and at CI there are two install options:
1) Eliminate the oem ballast/resistor wire all the way back to the ignition switch, and feed dui from there.
2) Use the old coil wire (which is fed by the pink ballast/resistor wire supplying insufficient voltage for dui) to trigger the relay setup

Fabion, If I were in your shoes the first thing I would do is temporarily hook up the wire from the battery to the dui (just long enough to start the car then turn it off and disconnect), to make sure the dui is still working.
Hang in there, I'm sure you'll get it figured out.

PS Vin Man & BA Mustang I don't know if your pink ballast/resistor wire was removed previously, or if you are missing out on performance...heck I'm running points, so not sure why anybody would be listening to me anyway

I burned up 2 coils and a voltage regulator when I disconnected the pink resistor wire. Wired it up like the old setup(pink and brown wires connected) and it works perfect.

You may be right - it may have been removed previously. I put a volt meter on in and checked to ensure it was 12 Volts before I hooked it up. I was running petronix before the DUI, but again I did not change a wire or use a relay. Must have been done before I took ownership of the vehicle 4 years ago.

Bottom line for me is that the wire that was going to the positive side of the coil was already a 12V wire and not one with a resistance to it to drop the voltage.
