I was attempting to do the Mr Gasket advance spring mod stickied in this forum, but the directions dont tell you how to completely get to the springs. I am new to tearing down distributors and its various internal components.... must you press out the roll pin on the armature on the dizzy shaft to remove it in order to get the cover plates off to access the springs? Cant get it off and it appears it must be first removed to gain access. It is the component that is shaft mounted below the rotor with the 6 spokes to indicate firing via magnetics. Thanks!

Yup, you have to drive out the roll pin in the spoked wheel (reluctor, i think is it's name). Also, you have to remove the plate that holds the magnetic pickup. On mine, they both want to come out and go back in at the same time, which takes three hands.

Oh, I don't know if it really matters, but pay attention to which way the reluctor wheel is located, so you can put it right back where it came from.

Thanks guys... I saw that site referenced before, but maybe I looked over it too quickly, did not see the method to remove the armature. I'll attempt to drive out the roll pin. Thanks again.

I ran into that problem as well, except i was unsuccessful in getting the two screws out. if it works for you tell us what kind of gains it got you. Thanks.

After fighting with it installed, I pulled my dizzy out and put it in a vise for better access and leverage, but still could not get the armature off, so I gave up before I damaged something. Oh well.
