Durspark question

I pulled a Duraspark dizzy out of a 76 Granada the other day. I want to install it in my 65 Falcon 200 six. In looking over the Granada dizzy I noticed the oil punp shaft hole seems to take a fairly large shaft, say 3/8". Is this the same size pump shaft in my falcon's six or do I need to satrt looking for another distributor?

That's what I'm worried about and why I haven't pulled the original distributor yet. Just hoping someone here might know.

Howyd Ken and all:

Check the block casting code. If it is a C5 or newer it will most likely be the larger driveshaft. The only 200 blocks with the smaller shaft and smaller hole for the distributor to pass through are the C3 & C4s. Both are 4 main bearing 200s. You'll find the casting code on the passengers side of the block, under the exhaust.

Adding a DS II to a '65 200 is a fairly comman, straight forward upgrade. Be sure to take the distributor & plug wires, the module, coil and wiring harness from the donor.

FYI- remember that your old, '65 Load-a-Matic distributor is married to the Spark Control Valve (SCV) in the stock Autolite 1100 carb. If you change to a DS II you will need to find a carb that has a ported vacuum source to correspond with the DS II vacuum advance system.

200 and 250 DS IIs are the same.

You'll like the difference.

Adios, David

I know the block casting is C5xxx. I looked at that a few weeks ago for some reason I can't remember right now, brain fart  . I already have the entire harness, box, coil and distributor from the donor car. My 65 is my daily driver right now so I didn't want to pull it apart and not be able to put it back together again. The carb isn''t an issue as I'm running an Autolite 2100 2 barrel right now. She surges as I drive so I'm assuming the dist. is looking for the vacuum signal and hunting for the correct timing. This is not a big deal driving 3 mi. back and forth to work but I don't use it for anything else right now.

When I compared the DSII dist. pump shaft diameter to an old shaft from a 289 dist., that I use to prime engines prior to the 1st firing, the DSII is noticably larger and I though the 289 shaft is 5/16"?

That's what I wanted to hear......I think....now I'm worried about my 289 in my 64 Falcon

What part of O-town are you in? I used to live in Winter Park, off Howell Branch and 436. Miss it down there, year round cruzin' :D

My office is in Winter Park, on University near Forsyth, about 2 miles from HB/436. I live about 7 miles east of there, near Dean and Curry Ford. Crusing slows down in the summer, not so much because of heat, but the afternoon rain. Actually, we're cooler in the summer than much of the Midwest.

Back on topic, Milodon and others make a very strong chrome moly shaft for the 289/302. Pretty much fixes the twisties.
