Easy Way to Find TDC

Great idea...

I agree though, I would use oil instead of water...

go too far and you have a cyl full of water
that would be no good.

But I like the idea!

I always heard just pull a spark plug and put your finger over the hole. When you reach TDC on the desired cylinder, your finger will be pushed from over the hole.

Yes it would push your finger off but there is little vertical travel as the piston reaches the top and may be hard for some to locate TDC.

This is just another way to find TDC. I also think it would be more accurate because it would push all the air out and then would suck water (or oil) in as soon as it passes TDC. You could then turn the engine back until all the water (or oil) is out then you know you have TDC assuming you have absolutly no slip between your crank and piston. Also if you turn back too far you will suck water (or oil) into the tube again.
