HI AGAIN, IN A PREVIOUS ARTICLE I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT THE GUY AT THE SPEED SHOP RECKONS YOU CANNOT PUT A PERFORMANCE CAM IN A 4.1 EFI SIX, BECAUSE THE COMPUTER WILL HAVE TROUBLE WITH IT, IS THIS TRUE? .....................

8) that depends on whether the cam falls in the computers range. if the computer can adjust for the change in airflow you have no problems, otherwise... best to contact the cam grinder for their recomendations.

Give Ray or Ron at Crow a call. There are limits, but you will be surprised even so.

THANK'S I THINK ILL GO SAFETY FIRST , AND STICK WITH THE STOCK SPECS.....

Reputable people (Mike Stahl in Wheels Feb 1987, Street Machines Kev Bartlett in a mid 1990's Ford build-ups article) say under 180 hp (135 kW) and 280 degrees total duration and about 215 cam degrees of opening at 50 thou in a manual are the limits. There is so much power to be found in a cam, so don't discredit it out of hand!

Crow, COME, Waggot etc...some of the best cam grinders around, all at your back yard!

I have a performance cam right now and I remember the fella at the shop said just as long as the cam produces 12" of vacuum you'll be alright.

I have a high torque cam that produces 15"-16" from www.claysmithcams.com with a late closing on the intake valve that produces some stompin' power past 3500rpm all the way to it's rev limit of 5500rpm. Yet it's a sweet drive round town. Enough torque to cruise/accelerate with.

Got a stage 2 crowy in my AU 6 and before fitting the exhaust, it was better than standard but did have a few flat spots. Exhaust fixed that and a unichip was fitted.

yeah i have a stage 3 crow cam in my xf its makes power from 2500rpm to 6800rpm athough i havent had it out past 5000 yet see how i go when i take it out the strip i got 150rwkw out of my carbied 250 with a cam exhust and a bit of head work and a 580 holley(did have a 350 on it but there wasnt enough air flow for the motor) but if you want to put a big cam in it you will have to put a differnt ecu in it i had a disscusion about this with my mechanic

its pretty cool when ppl ask you if its a 6 or 8 coz its cammin that hard

150kw at the wheels? Fark!
I need to get mine tuned properly and tested.
I love my idle noise, lumpy as.
Cam by COME racing.

If you got a big cam you could always chip the bastard and it will be fine.
I think COME now do an EFI grind and it may use the stock computer but im not sure, give them a call.

Dan

yeah well its around 150 the dyno sheet i got is only in hp which was 201.3 rwhp with an auto
