Electric cooling fan thermostat switch to use...

I'd like to switch to an electric fan setup before summer hits.

My main issue is trying to find a sender that accurately detects the temp of the coolant at it's hottest and makes sure my fan is cooling enough when needed.

Is there a way to find thermostat switches for elec fan setups that are like the sending units for the temp gauge?

This was advised to me by someone, but it doesn't look like it'd accurately sense the temp of the coolant. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DERALE-E ... 4cf4002c74

Not having any luck, because I don't really know what to look for. I can find a fan, wiring at a junk yard no problem, but it's the electric thermostat switch that I don't really know where to start....

Thank you very much.

Are you going to supplement or replace the mechanical cooling fan?..

I'm using a large pusher fan in front of an aluminum radiator for the performance 250 . The fan is controlled by a Permacool controller which mounts like a temp. sensor internally. It's adjustable and can run two fans. I tapped the thermostat housing for the sensor and it's interlocked so it only runs with the key turned on.

I have that exact one on my truck. it works like a charm I don't know where they get the 150 degree low limmit you can turn mine on even at room temp. Of course I have mine set to kick on at 200'F The instruction that came with the one i bouth at autozonne says it can be turned on as low as 32'F.
Its easy to make it work I used some RTV and tape to "stick" it to the side of the heater hose coming from the water pump. THen i coverd the hose and all with isulation with more tape. I wouldnstick it in or on the radiator if you have to pull the rad you then have to deal all over with the temp probe.
Just fire the car up and use a infared heat temp gun on the heaterhose and set the fan to kick on at whatever temp you want.

That same one is $27 at Jegs
or $17.99 at autozone is under " TorqFlo #733653 " or I think autozone sku #267187

I plan on completely replacing the mechanical fan.

Thank you very much for the info, but isn't tapping the thermo housing a bad idea since you want the temp of the water on the other side of the thermostat?

When it says "radiator probe", that means it sicks directly into a water jacket with liquid contact, correct?

I'm really afraid of setting up this whole shabang and then coming to find out that the fan is incorrectly reading that my engine is at 180º when it's actually at 220º....

MAny sensors as in your link are simply tie wrapped to the radiator or hoses. What is not recommended is putting a TEE fitting on the OEM sensor tap and having a thermal dead leg. Conduction should allow for the Thermo housing rising heat to reach the sensor reliably. Without the ign. switch cutout, the fan activated a few minutes after shutdown and then cycle a few times until heat rise ceased.

NOT tapping as in threads, but using tape with electric tape. on the side of the heater hose.

And it does't matter what the fan switch is reading you set it to the temp you want to. It will not change later.
