My Monarch has an engine compartment with miles of vacuum lines and emissions related stuff. There are all kinds of Ported Vacuum Switches to control and adjust spark and advance and who knows what else, a spark delay valve yada yada yada. How much of this stuff do I actually need to have on there? I'd just as soon remove it, and have just have a PCV valve, vac advance, and a vacuum line for my brakes and heater controls. Does any of that other stuff actually help my engine run better, or is it all primitive and cumbersome emissions stuff that reduces performance?

Thanks as always.

It all depends on if you need to pass emissions to get registered.

If yes, you need that stuff.
If no, you can strip it down a little.

Be careful though....Most carbs will be set up TOO LEAN if you disable the EGR valve. In fact, the EGR can actually increase your mileage a littel if working right.
