Engine spurts and other questions

Noticed that when I'm on idle or just at a red light, the engine spurts. Any idea what could be causing this? I do need to take in the car for a tune up so I'm taking a guess that is what it needs but I would like to see if anyone else has experienced this.

Also, I notice that when I stop and go again, sometimes the car sort of hesitates to go. As if the engine was not ready to go again. I guess what I mean is that it feels like the whole front end stutters and the wheels feel like they roll once before the car takes off. It's kind of weird but it's annoying. Sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesn't. Could it be the carb?

And my last question. I'm going to try to send out for the Six Manual this week, but I also would like to know if it's easy to do these kinds of jobs on your own? I'm no mechanical wiz but I would also like to do something myself instead of having to pay someone else to do everything.

My car does sorta the same thing we have determined, after getting the carb rebuilt twice, that it needs a better ignition system and a shim in the rear end as there is excess play in the wheels before the driveshaft moves at all. It is still a possibility that the carb might be a bit lean if it only does it at idle and takeoff then you might want to check the carb and just readjust the timing and check the vaccum for sure.

As far as the manual. Yes there is a whole section that is easy and inexpensive work. A bit of the book I will need a machine shop to do work for me, but it is divided into sections from easy to hard and cheap to expensive. As you work through the book you might start to become more daring and try the next thing. I know that is how I am about it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks it does help to know that I'm not alone in trying to figure somethings out by myself for the first time when it regards these engines.

And I'll see if I can take the carb to be checked cause that problem is seriously getting on my nerves.
