Engine swaping ????'s

Ok, well today my little 200 gave out on my. It has been a bout a year in the making but I have been keeping it going as long as possible. There's enough wrong with her that it's not even worht listing. But I've basically restored my entire car and dont want to scrap it, so I am looking for a new engine. Even since I got teh car 4 years ago I have wanted to put a big old 300 in it, I'm just wondering if thats even possible. It is a 1972 Maverick, C4 tranny, stock rear end, stock prety much everything, etc.....

Can I cram a big'ol 300 in my little car? Will my breaks hold it? All 4 are drums but have been completely replaced with new parts in the restore.

Anyways, any insight would be great. I really dont want to end up another guy with a 302, although it's a great one, I like the straight 6's.

I'm more wondering if anyone knows if it will bonlt up to the tranny or if any heavy fab will have to take place to make it work.

A 250 might be an easier swap.

Mavericks had no problem getting around with 302's, another 6 shouldnt be a problem w/ breaks and suspension. as for your second q. Iam not sure, but if you get the tranny w/ the 300 you should have your bases covered

300's have the same bolt pattern as a 250/302. I would put a 250 in it. 300 isn't worth the trouble IMO.

Remember this...the 300 is mostly a 'truck' engine. Longer stroke, doesn't rev like a 200. While you may be able to fit it...a 250 will be a much easier swap and you'll likely love it. Or, even with some upgrades, the 200 is quite the beast. I love the power mine is making now.

The 300 six is longer than the small six so you would have a problem mounting the radiator...it would have to be moved forward about 3 inches. Plus no one to my knowledge offers motor mounts for this swap, so they would probably have to be fabricated. Hood clearance may also be an issue. Not worth the trouble IMO. A 250 would be a better choice.
