Engine update - 200 for a 66 Bronco

Friday my mechanic tested my head on the flow bench; I'm pretty happy with the results . Crank is balanced. Saturday he honed and resurfaced the block. So, all that's left to do on the block is to clean it, install the cam bearings & core plugs.

The pistons/rings arrived Tuesday. The original ring set was 5/64" (appx. 2mm), 5/64", 3/16" (>4.5mm). The new ring set is 1.2mm, 1.5mm, 3mm (the oil ring is a low drag design). Since the final bore size is an oversize of the 5.0 Coyote engine, Total Seal used those rings for my application...so I'm definitely calling it the Coyote 6!!

The columns marked "#1 intake" and #1 exhaust" are the baseline flow numbers for the stock head with stock valves. Columns "#2 intake" and "#2 exhaust" are for the ported head with the larger, back-cut valves. The virtual dyno software suggests the cylinder head work is worth 70hp and roughly 30 ft*lbs torque...not bad!

Howdy 66Bronk:

Very nice flow increases. What are the lift spec on the cam. I seem to recall some pretty good duration but I don't recall lift. I'll be looking forward to this engine together and going down the road. Oh, and I don't recall what you have planned for exhaust.

Don't you love a flow bench to give you some feedback to validate progresses with empirical data. Keep it coming.

Adios, David

What more could U want?
Before: flow bench

After: dyno

We haven't done the cam yet. Jack (my pro) is going to punch in the numbers and have one custom ground, I think.

For exhaust I'm planning on going with the Clifford Shorty headers specific to Broncos. I can be persuaded to others, though, if anyone has Bronco specific experience. I also haven't decided on whether I want to add the port divider. I've read that it works and that it's a waste. I may do it just because everything is already apart and it's less than $30 for the part.

Once she's all together the students will definitely put her on the dyno. I can hardly wait, but I have to. Best guess is two more years to put her on the road.

"...two more years…"
purdy quick by my available resources, BUT…
I keep it in (almost continuous) use. How can both B true?
I have been 'restoring' (maintaining w/upgrades when worn/broken) for over 30 yrs. Use is several Xs p/wk (off intermittently 5 mo of 'spring/summer', then still a bit of a driver rather than woods wrk) for income. Will B 'retiring' it to my 20 y/o daughter soon as update is complete.

I would use the divider w/any headers.
I have the last of Mike's (not fitted 2 da 250 yet) which most claim 2B the flee-bay's "Speed Daddy" @ a great price! Y not use them?

Like yer model: removable door window frames, nice grill, man transmis's handle, the models w/ firestone air bags, more.
Have U been to the U13 site?
(hopin you'll save the 170 for "numbers matchin" availability)

I found her as a hunk of rusted metal in what amounts to a junk yard. Body and chassis have been separated for a few years now. Her chassis is starting to look great. The body is still a LONG way from even being structurally sound.

I would use the divider w/any headers. I am starting to lean that way.

I'm not to the point that I have the money to spend on parts that I won't need within the year, but when I get to that point I'll definitely hit you up to see if you still have them (unless, of course, you're giving them away now)

Have U been to the U13 site? I haven't been to the u13 site. Mine's a U15 that is going to end up being a LUBR. I put the 2.5" suspension lift on already. 1" body lift is planned. I'm thinking 32" tires will fit snugly. I do love a nice teal U13, though. Sexy.
(hopin you'll save the 170 for "numbers matchin" availability) I still have it. Not sure how/ where I'm going to store it once the project is through though.
