Yes the block is pretty much the same as to locations of all the bolt bosses and motor mounts, the oil pan sump and pick up tube is different easy to change over to the 67 front sump and pick up tube. Front drive parts and brackets will be different from a 67 IE Alt., power steering, AC etc. they may all fit I have not tried to use them in an early body, but if not you could always change all them over from your old engine. The main difference is at the rear of block this may be a good thing depends on your goals for the car. The good thing is you can adapt the SBF V8 bell housings which opens up all kinds of transmission options. If you are using a C4 try to get the bell, starter, and the flex plate with it's hardware and then you can easily bolt your current trans to it. Sounds like a great score good luck
Sorry bro's, but there is a potential problem because a large number of post 1980 to 1983 blocks were actually high mount, but some were low mount. The color, rocker cover decal and trans code defines whats there, and there is the likely hood a low mount block will give you a few head aches unless you are really certain on what transmission your gonna use.
I'd say 60% of the 1982 blocks will be blue high mount engines with C3 gearboxes. About 40% will be low mount grey engines with 2/3rds of the SBF bellhousing, and C4 or C5 gearboxes. If the car it came out of has a BV trans code, or a engine decal that
isnt AB232, it will be a high mount block, and you good with everything.
The grey engines are low mount, and you need to use a whole stock low mount spec six cylinder 1982-1983 C4 or C5 low mout transmission, or redrill the top two holes of SBF C4 or C5 transmission. The kicker is:-
You can't easily swap a stock high mount I6 C4 behind a low mount grey block.
