Exhaust Irregularities

This may be a foolish question, but I've noticed white grayish "stains" on the exhaust manifold near the connecting bolts. The bolts periodically loosen and I find I have to retighten them every couple weeks. It was just isolated to one bolt but it seems as if spreading. What is this? The manifold looks pretty ancient. Maybe I should just replace it with headers.
Any help would be great.

HI JC
WELCOME ABORD
The stains could be a fuel leak off the carb.. are they close to the carb or fuel line??
As for the bolts backing off it may be normal. I have seen some manifolds that have a star type washer on them with the tab bent down over the bolt heads so the won't turn...
What motor are you working on?

I have actually witnessed my carb flowing over with gas w/ the air cleaner removed. It left me stranded because of it. I have 65 mustang coup with a 200 ci and autolite 1100. Theres also staining on the outside of the carb, but it looks more like dirty gasoline. Thanks, pedal2themetal45.
