Exhaust Manifold for 69 200

The "choke" problem was really a cracked heat riser routing soot into the choke spring housing. That is all cleaned up, the heat riser tubes are plugged with high temp manifold repair putty, and an extrenal heat riser is now attached to the outside of the manifold. Since the temp is not as hot, the choke stays on longer but runs much better.

I went to purchase a replacement exhaust manifold and was told by a Falcon parts vendor that the manifold casting # of C8 means it was much bulkier than the 60-63 versions. He said the beefier versions are not reproduced.

I was hoping to get a new manifold, but will I have to repair my current one or find a decent used one? Does anyone have a source of a repro'd one that would fit?

The block casting is "C9DE" so it's a 69 200.
The exhaust manifold is "C8....." so it's a 68.

Thanks!

Well, as I understand things, the later manifold has larger passages and a larger outlet. Its made for a 2" pipe instead of the earlier 1 3/4" pipe. Sometime later, there was some emissions stuff added and that manifold is very different where the pipe bolts up. That one is very different and easy to spot. I have a later one for my engine ('66 200) and its just like the earlier one just a tad bit bigger. The one I have is off a Maverick style Comet. If you didn't look for the casting number or know these manifolds very well, you wouldn't spot the difference. Just went outside and checked, and mine's a D2 so its a '72 part.

Thanks-
I guess I'll go the yard and see if I can find one. I have an extra from a 68 ford but it is cracked in the heat riser, too! Looks like it was a common problem.

Hi Marc,
There was an I6 maverick at Dorris over in Hayward on Depot rd last time I was there (two months, six weeks ago?). Old stuff moves pretty fast there though. There is also a yard a few blocks away on Winton (just past the pick'n'pull to the west) that has a lot of old mustang stuff, if the yard guy willl let you in... He seems to size people up, to see if they are worthy of entering his junkyard.

Rick-
Thanks for the tip. I love Dorris' Wreckers in Hayward (PAVED!!) and usually more later model cars than Pick N Pull (in the mud...). Do you think they'll have a manifold way back in the far right corner in the "shelves?" I found a water pump pulley there (off a 72) and did not have to westle with frozen bolts...

Thanks!

If you can find one on a shelf that would be great. I went to a local yard and tried to get 4 different manifolds off and not one would come off. Every one had at least one bolt round off so I couldn't get it off. If you have to wrench one off for yourself, get a 6 point socket and grind the open end of it flat. Sockets have a beveled front edge to ease the bolt head into the socket. Thats nice but when you have move a rusted bolt or even break one off, that bevel only gives you about half of the bolt head in contact with the socket. If you grind the end of the socket flat, you get full contact. I didn't do that and payed the price. I left that yard and got one at a different yard that used an air impact wrench to remove it for me.

HEY MARC.
