Guys, I am confused about standard exhaust manifolds, the problem is I am trying to put my basket case 68 200 mustang together, I have fought exhaust leaks at the donut forever, I have found that I have a 2 inch exhaust system, how can I tell if the manifold I have is for a 1 3/4 or 2 inch pipe, is there a difference in the bore area where the donut goes, can you give me the sizes of both, this vehicle does not have an emmission system. :?

inside diamater is what matters, match the inside diamater of the gasket to the outside diamater of the pipe, factory is 1 3/4". if your using paper/ cardboard gaskets, try a steel gasket

I know the pipe is 2 inches and the donut is correct for the 2 inch pipe, but how do I find out if the 2 inch pipe is correct for the mainifold, is there a bore difference in the manifold for 1 3/4 and 2 inch or does it not matter which pipe size you use as long as the matching donut is used?

as long as the tapers fit togther, it shouldn't matter. just make shure there is enough of the gasket taper touching the manifold taper.

At the bottom of the block, just in front of the starter there should be a small bracket that the exhaust pipe clamps onto. If the bracket is missing or the pipe is not clamped to it, as the engine vibrates, the pipe wobbles at the doughnut gasket and it will eventually wear out and leak.
