I had a lot of noise coming from my 64.5 stang and noticed a huge crack right through my manifold(170 six) and so I replaced the manifold. The problem is that it still sounds not so quiet.Could it be that it now just needs a new muffler or complete exhaust system?I can't see any noticable holes in either the muffler or pipes.

Thanks

Where's the noise? Back? Front? Middle? Be as specific as possible (i.e. under the passenger seat, in the engine compartment, only when you let off of the gas...)

The noise seems more in the front and only when I am accelerating.I cannot tell whether it is in the engine compartment or just near the front area.

Thanks

When you replaced the exhaust manifold, did you put in a new exhaust doughnut (metal / lead, soft ring that goes between the exhaust manifold and the start of the exhaust piping)? Did it get installed correctly? I had to fight with mine when putting it on. Make sure you tighten the bolts around the doughnut evenly (a little at a time alternating sides) to get a good seal. I had to go back and tighten mine down again a few times after driving it around (the doughnut gets compressed and starts leaking).

The doughnut should fit snug around the exhaust pipe and into the manifold. There are various diameters available for the parts store. I got the wrong one once and took it back.

Hope this helps.

If your exhaust is really loud, then you more than likely have an exhaust leak somewhere. When you replaced the manifold, did you also replace the donut gasket? If not, thats where I would start since you did not see any hioles in your exhaust system.
