Just wanted to know what would be cheaper, a whole exhaust system off the internet or taking it to a muffler shop
really depends on the shops in your area
try going to a shop and getting an estimate from them, most of the time they'll do a free estimate
from there, price a couple of sets off the internet
if you get any static from the shops about a setup for a six being more expensive than a V8 then i'd go elsewhere
it's the same setup with a couple extra bends, MustangGeezer was once talking about getting a V8 setup and adapting it, dunno if he ever did though

most of the 2.3L turbo guys just by a v8 cat back and have a Y pipe welded up (from j bends) could do the same for your six. buy an off the shelf kit, bolt it up at home and roll it in the exhaust shop to have the head pipe done. if you have a 110v mig making your own is pretty easy. I just buy a couple bends from JCW (they sell dynomax ones) and some length of straight tubing and just cut and weld until it fits. keeps the cost WAY down that way. I think I spent $50 total on my current system most of that was in a muffler. I only did single exhaust so only needed to bends and about 10' of tubing.

I'm just planning on rolling into the muffler shop with the headers on and the mufflers, x-pipe and GT exhaust horns in the trunk. I figure that I could probably piece together all the pipes to make it work, but I'd rather just leave it to the folks that do it everyday.

I took mine to a shop last Friday. I had dual out header in place and brought my own glasspack mufflers and H pipe pieces.
Cost out the door for a dual system fully plumbed with the H-pipe and dual glasspacks dumping out just in front of the rear axle was $200.
I'll post some pics soon. I think it sounds great now, not too loud, but just right.

Is a H pipe needed?
with an I6, no
the h and x pipes were developed to equal out an imbalance within each bank of cylinders on V8's (and other V configuration engines)
the I6 is inherently balanced so we don't need it
however, it's been shown that it'll add a couple HP
you don't have to get one, but if you're going to squeeze out all the HP you can get then you'll need one

Depends on the shop, but my experience has been that the V8 dual system is usually cheaper to buy complete, then have it hooked up.
A dual system with muffs can be had for less than $150.

Hey Gang,
This is probably a fire waiting to start...but hey, it's insured for more than it cost.
The driveshaft is well clear with the car on the ground. It looks close up on the lift as this is a frame lift, not a wheel lift. The pipes are clear of the seatpan as well. H-pipe is under the convertible seatpan extra bracing piece.
Cheap $20 flowtech glasspacks off eBay. Sounds good. Sound clip to follow.
I can tell you I had a lot more heads turn with these pipes than before.
