explain please?

In my never ending quest for understanding all the ins and outs of engines, can someone please give me a rather indepth explination of exactly how a turbo a works, and what different type of set ups are available? I would be very thankful to anyone who can explain this to a comparativly turbo-illiterate custom_trucker.

Pick up a copy of Turbochargers by Hugh MacInnes, ISBN 0-89586-135-6, available from www.motorbooks.com. It was written in the carburetor era so it's a bit dated, but it is excellent on theory, sizing and on plumbing for carbed applications. Fro EFI you need to read Maximum Boost by Corky Bell. IIRC Motorbooks sells that one too.
