Fabricated Valve Covers

I am looking into the possibilities of having some fabricated valve covers made up. From what they tell me, they can have them to me in a few weeks. Price will be somewhere around $225 to $250, depending on how much interest there is in them (how many I order). They would be rectangular and would fasten to the head via allen bolts recessed through the top. Gasket rim would be CNC machined 3/8" billet rails, so they should never leak (like our stock ones). And they will incorperate a breather hole in the rear.

Anyway, I was wondering if you guys would like something like this? Or are they just to pricey to consider? They would look great on an aluminum cylinder head. But wait, no one produces an aluminum head, atleast not yet (hint).

They would look something like this, but for a six of course.

those look sweet, but that price... ouch...
if you don't mind prying, how many orders do you have to get to get that? and would it go down afterwards? (10 orders = $225, 20 = $112 sorta thing?)
they are a little plain though...

EDIT: although, finned covers with the FordSix logo on 'em would catch my interest

I'd love to have one of those on my six. Price is a little steep though... I'd buy headers before I go with a $200+ vavle cover. But they are cool.

Mike, the covers look great. Do they have an oil fill tube & breather at the front & a pcv port at the rear of the valve cover. Also is the height the same as the chrome aftermarket cover?? If these specs are what i reference to i am interested.
In my case with the recessed air cleaner i have very little clearance between the chrome valve cover & the base of the air cleaner.

What I'd love to be availabe for the sixes is a valve cover that could be custom ingraved like these:

It would allow for a much more custom look.

I actually like them completely smooth like that. I'd be really interested, but again that price is too high for me. $100 might make me slide a credit card your way.

I'll keep looking, maybe I can find them for less from another supplier. This supplier is in OZ and to get a $25 discount, I need to order fifty of them, but that's the lowest they will go. I thought it was a bit high too.

Mike,
I'm all for it. Although cheaper is always better!
I personally like the plain aluminum look. It makes it easier to weld on bungs for crackcase evac. stuff!

I talked to the supplier and told them the majority response was negative, as their prices were to high. He said his price was an estimate as he has not made one single inline cover, only V8. So he agreed to make me five units and see how the labor and materials work out. If it works out better than he estimated, he will adjust the price accordingly. So, I'll have four of them for sale at an undetermined price. Atleast this way, I'll have a sample so I can post actual pics of the product.

I realy like them valve covers 8) . Due to the price it would take me quite a while before I`d be able to get one :x .

Me too! I'll trade you some really nifty web work for one
No, seriously...let me know what you need for one :!:

I have been SO NEEDING A NEW VALVE COVER!! The chrome one I got leaks like a seive (I obviously fouled up the OZ intake runner adjustment). I actually have had fair luck getting the original one to seal but it looks awful on my gorgeous engine! EVERYONE at the shows asks me "can't you get a better valve cover?"!

I was hoping to see a FSPP finned alum cover happening soon.

WhitePony, what would keep you from having this one Mike is suggesting engraved?

I'll tell you what I REALLY like...the two piece covers that I've seen for our motors...from South America i think. Kind of looks like the bottom one that WhitePony posted is similar. The body bolts down to the head and the top bolts to it making rocker adjustment tweaking a breeze! i would definitely pay more for that kind of design.

Oh, yeah, and these will have no issues with OZ runners of course...right?

I would rather the cover came with a twist on cap in front and a blank spot in the rear that could be drilled for a PCV or tapped for a hardline mounted breather (how I am gonna run my turbo breather) I would rather see nice TIG'd ones instead of big billet slabs. it would be nice to have a VC that could have a couple holes drilled and tapped on the sides for wire looms to be attached to. I have been thinking of starting a backyard foundry after a couple weeks of reading up on it....maybe I need ot knock out a one off cover for myself...

Hey Mike, what about having FSPP milled into the top or one for the Big sixes?

Az...

I do a lot of work with machine tools, mills, lathes and similar. The estimate he gave you is pretty close unless he has some volume to go with it. The blanks are costly and no screw up is tolerated when machining the fitments. Just so you know, since I deal with custom fabricators for the bike, brake and custom car parts.

However, if you were to obtain blanks in bulk rate and bring them here, there are alot of job shops that may/might/can cut these to your specs and therefore the price would be less. I entertained this thought for one of our test machines, a Fadal, but I did not have a blank at the time and no way to get one. Once the setup is made..the hard part is over, cept for changing inserts or mills.

From what I understand, they will have an oil filler tube or twist cap in the front, and a breather hole in the back. Guess I will wait till the first samples arrive, then post the pics and complete details.

Engraving can be done after they get here. Or by the customer for a custom design.
