whats't the difference betwenen the factopry holley that came on the 223 and the holley 94?just the load o matic stuff right? can i take off the motorcrap i have now that came from the factory and bolt on a holley 94?

and yes i am replacing the load o matic dizzy at the same time as the carb swap. duraspark II baby.

Holley 94 is a 2bbl carb that fits 54/55/56 Ford 272/292 Y-block engines and is very similar to the stromberg 97 carbs that went on the flathead V8s. Those will not mount on the stock 223 intake manifold. If one could somehow fit one on there, it is a much taller carb than the holley 1904, so I think it would be very difficult to fit it with an air cleaner.
Your stock 223 carb can be made to work properly if the core is good. Many folks have taken to rebuilding carbs themselves due to the poor workmanship they are getting out of rebuild shops. And they're easy to rebuild.
If your core is bad, the later 1bbl carbs from the later Falcons, Mavericks, Fairmonts and F series trucks might fit, but the carb accellerator linkage might need to be reworked to mate up with it.
How about one off a pre-EFI 300 I-block 6 in a F series truck.

oh ok. the carb off of a pre-efi, those were carters YZ's right?

I think he is refering to the one barrel Holley carbs Ford put on the flathead six motors. I think they are a better carburetor that the later Holley one barrels, but they are taller. I think the throttle linkage will hook up but the choke is in a different place, but I don't remember for sure.

Try this: Take a spare carb mounting gasket that fits your intake manifold to your local salvage yard. They often have carbs sitting on a shelf and tagged as to yr, make & model. Match one up to the mounting surface with your gasket. Compare the salvage carb accellerator actuator position relative to your original carb mentally. I think the later models had a cable connection rather than the rods, clevis and spring assemblies of the '50's. And make sure it has the features you want for using it with your new duraspark instead of vacuum.

i currently have a 223 with a load o matic 2bbl 94. it works good but hood clearance is not too good. you have maybe 2 inches to work in an air cleaner, and it seems to like to freeze in humid 50 something degree weather

Offy Parts sells the adapters to fit the holley 94's to the stock or Offy dual -triple intakes.

the adapter is not correct part number so don't order...its the only pic I could find of adapter..order by application.

If you are looking for more performance, you can go another route, but for normal running, there should be no problem going with the stock setup as it is perfectly adequate when properly set up and maintained.

my 223 with a holley 94

this is what it looked like before the trans-dapt adapter from carburetion.com. it cost like 12 bucks. the link for the throttle is in line with the arm, so it is really easy to fabricate.

this setup likes to freeze in 50 something degree humid weather, so i have to run a hot air snorkel if I want to drive much. There is not much room between the hood and the top of the carb, and you might have to play with the jetting. power is increased, and fuel vaporization is a lot better, hence the freezing...

It is in my 63 f100. the tall thing and carb icing are the only downsides. it gets better mileage (maybe due to better fuel vaporization) and more power (same reason) but ices in humid weather(fuel vaporization).

I always thought carb icing was a myth or for airplanes. i put my back up carb (autolite 1100) on there yesterday so I could pull apart the 94. they are like night and day. The 94 has a lot more power and driveability.

the 94 has the load o matic stuff on it. if you ditch the load o matic, there are plenty of other carbs to mess with besides the 94. that is the reason i used the 94, besides the fact that i found it in the trash and risked being struck by lightning if i didnt put it on my truck...
