hey all, I've got my fairlane ready for getting running, sealed up all the vacuum leaks and got my dist recurved by FSD. (very pleased with the quality of work)...
I currently have a holley 500 cfm carb, and will likely switch to an edelbrock 500/600 4bbl due to confined space in the near future. But I wanna drive her now!!!

With all that, what should I pre-tune my carb with? I know engine a and b won't be the same, but I'd like a good starting point for jetting etc so that I can kinda just go from there. Don't know if its even possible but I figured asking never hurts.

engine specs are in my signature down below.. thanks all!!!!

8) my advice is to leave the carb alone for now, until the engine is running and you have an idea what the engine wants. what you have now is your starting point, and if you mess that up with a lot of adjustments now, it will be very difficult to get back to where you are now. as us crew chiefs have always said, make one change at a time, and test it, record the data, and then make another change and repeat. one more thing, just because a change you make doesnt work, doesnt mean that it will never work. if you make a change that seems in the right direction, you can then make an earlier change that didnt work the first time, but with a different combination might just work the second time.

Alright. Sounds like what I was planning. I guess I was hoping to find a shortcut. Haha. Well I got the dizzy dropped in where I thought it was and she fired right up. So now I guess get the initial and idle set then go from there. I really need to invest in an o2 setup but funds are tight.

8) nice job. the problem with shortcuts is that you get lost very quickly. i had a car owner that would take shortcuts during tuning sessions, and it was all i could do to keep up and keep from getting lost.

Yeah I just wanted a base tuning. Things like, this acc pump will not work on anyone else's 200 or this jetting is way too rich. But honestly, I just wish someone with the experience was close enough to swing by and assist a bit. Lol. I love learning this stuff!

Alright. Thanks!!! 8)
I'm gonna spend the afternoon with her to see what ground I can make, and any questions I end up witb will probably be asked this evening.

wsa11 did a thorough jetting on his big holley with a wideband.
You might find some baseline info, but you will probably need to go through the process yourself to get an accurate assessment of what yours needs.

I remember that. It was really interesting. I thought about doing that but to have the carb properly mounted in comparison to the block I'll have to jump to the edelbrock 4bbl. On the fairlane, having the 2bbl mounted perpendicular is a really tight fit.
