Finding the Right Cam (this is an info-mercial, of sorts!)

This man makes a lot of sense, but I do not agree that a computer can pick the best cam profile for my engine. If my engine was deisel running a generator, then yes I know a computer is best. but I have never seen a computer programed so it takes in account how I drive or that I am willing to "tune" a efi computer. Or the fact I am willing to accept tradeoffs down lower for more power and torque up higher. I worked at crane cams for over 3 years as a technical consultant. I am almost offended by his comments about how tech people won't recomend others cams. One of the questions we most often asked was what cam do you have now. If they had a modern profile and it seemed to fit with the combination of parts they were using, We were not afraid to tell them.
A vehicle is a combination of all of its parts. the more of an improvment
you want in performance the more parts must be changed or modifiyed.
If you have a cam that will make a 30-40% improvment you might only get 10% if you have nothing else changed.

Could you help me on a cam for my pulling tractor? Or know some one who could? Would Crane do a regrind of my stock cam? I have no idea what to change if anything or where to go to get it done. I'd have to have my lifters reground too.

Thanks
Jeremy

I know crane regrinds all kinds of cams including tractor cams. My boss at crane was bob stratman he was the one who delt with the pullers. I don't
think they resurface lifters. It has been 10 years since I worked there, but I am sure someone there can help you.

What is funny is I know the area code changed but i remember the old number in my head 904-258-6174. I think the new area code is 386? you can find it at www.cranecams.com I am sure of that.

8) i can tell you that from knowing both denny wykoff and david vizard personally, they were both college instructors of mine, i can tell you that both of them are quite knowledgable regarding anything about the internal combustion engine. both have built and researched all aspects of building high performance and race engines for many years. i have read the article written about the cam master program, and found that indeed the program can pick cams that work better than the ones most people, even the experts, pick for a given engine.
