im pretty sure ppl have had same experince annd can hopefully help me out here...Oooo 65 stang 200

1. coolant leak inside car, passenger side

2. and coolant leak more like puddle on manifold side of engine

3. engine temp gauge never seems to reach normal operating temp.

1. Yep. Heater core. Cheap fix is to bypass core.

2. If coolant is collecting in intake valleys, it could be a corroded carb base.
Otherwise its freeze plugs or bad heater hoses.

If it's in the intake valleys, it's gotta be the carb heater plate as all of the freeze plugs are below the intake.

1) Heater Core is cracked. Either replace of bypass (if you live ina place you don't need heat)

2) Carb base is leaking, or the hose going into and out of it is leaking

3) A couple of things. Bad gauge (most likely). Improperly set voltage for the dash unit (rarely the problem). Or, with all your leaks, part of your system may be air bound at this point. The temp gauge doesn't work well in Air.

As for the temp gauge, buy, beg, or borrow one of those IR temp guns and see what the actual temps are. Could be a bad gauge, wire, sender, or ground. Could also be a stuck open or missing stat.

my heater was completely torn up and unsaveable, but i pulled the guts out so i have a heater core sitting in my garage you can have. pm me.

First thing to do for point #3 is to check that the system is full of coolant. In my experience running too cool is a sign of a stuck open t/stat. Go buy and install a new t/stat, they're pretty cheap too.

I think you may have a large captive bubble somewhere in the block. Run with the radiator cap off and watch to see if it purges any air and how much. You may have to drain it down, refill and watch it circulate.

thanks alot everyone first thing tomorrow im going to check heater core and try to bypass it....any suggestion on an easy way to get to heater core and also bypass it

While you are at it, you might as well drain and refill and burb the cooling system. You've got to drain it most of the way down to remove the heater core without making a mess (unless you have really nice hose crimps that won't damage the hoses).

And, since you will have it drained, spend the $5 to replace the thermostat now just for peace of mind.

take the front part of the heater off, there should be 2 clamps holding the hoses on the heater core. unscrew them and use some channel locks to get them off then either put a new heater core in and hook up the hoses. or you can get a smaller hose, take the long ones out and connect the smaller one to where the long ones used to be. i hope that made sense.

Cheap and dirty fix: there are 2 heater hoses entering the firewall from the engine compartment. Cut these a couple of inches away from the firewall. Use a pipe coupler to connect the 2 freshly cut heater hose ends together.

Downer and dirtier: loop one or the other hose back to the pump while you r&r the heater and core.
