what year and size engine?? Could the "N" be a "H" for H series or 226 cu in?

It was in a 49 Ford truck.

I'm not all that sure about those numbers, most ford #s are usually along the lines of C3DE-XXXX-X. "C" being the decade (B='50s, C='60s etc), "3" being the year (in this case 1963), "D" is the car it was designed for (falcon in this case), "E" is the componant (engine) & the rest is the basic part #. If I remember right, in the '40s & early '50s ford often left off the first digit, so your casting # would be something along the lines of 9TE-XXXX. I belive that many of the H & M series flatties had 7HA in thier part #s. The only way that I know to tell the difference between the H & M is the bore. Don't know if there is anything different externaly between the 2. The G series however, has the distributor mounted on the front of the engine. Hope this helps.
