Floating/Pressed Pistons?

Hey all,

One more noob question for you guys. I was talking to 62Ranchero about this and wanted to put it up here to get y'alls collective thoughts.

I got a set of early forged 300 rods, as per his build. Am planning on running them with custom pistons, also similar to his. His build sheet calls for a 2.700 x 0.912" wrist pin. I am woefully unfamiliar with the idea of floating or pressing pistons... I have done some googling but still don't fully understand the concept. My rods have a .910 hole...Can anyone help me out with pros/cons of floating/pressed for these forged pistons? Or just what the rod diameter needs to be in respect to the pin diameter with/without a bushing... Or just point me in the direction of a good resource where I can read about this? I appreciate the help, guys!

The only negative aspect of floating the wrist pins is you will have better results if the rods are machined for bushings first, otherwise they will be fine with a press fit. Floating a wrist pin with steel on steel contact opens up a can of worms that is best left closed. Just make sure you drill an oil hole on the top side of the rods small end if you decide to float them.
