There are smaller freeze plug looking holes under the exhaust manifold, one of them is leaking coolant. What are these things?
I cant figure it out. Thanks!
These "freeze plugs", the small ones under the exhaust are a frequent topic - unfortunately. Easy to replace with head off or at least exhaust manifold removed
not recommended but ...:
... when I first picked up my '63 wagon I went to work cleaning it with a hi-pressure washer. the pressure washer promptly blew right thru one of the freeze plugs you mention. I mixed up some JB Weld and pushed it in with my thumb figgerin' I'd be fixing it real soon. After @ 5 years, it was still was intact when I passed engine and tranny to another Falcon guy for his '63. Most don't have this much confidence in epoxy and I was surprised it held up in hi-temps.
So, I was told that to tell whether my engine was a 170 or a 200 to count the freeze plugs, is this accurate? If so do I count these freeze plugs, or just the larger ones?
