8) part of the problem is all the heat that comes off the exhaust manifold, and in your case the catalytic converter as well. a heat shield will help a lot by blocking heat from those sources. you will have to build your own though for this engine as no one makes one that i know of. use some thin blocks of phenolic resin and sandwich a piece of sheet metal between them to act as a shield. try to emulate heat shields sold by summit racing for best results.
Cut a piece of plywood in the shape of the carb gasket. Get two new studs that will be long enough to go thru the plywood and the base of the carb and you wont have any more problems. After I did that to my car it will run fine in 90 plus degree weather.
It is a cheap and easy fix. Dont get a piece any thicker than about 1/2" or you may have hood clearence problems.
