fuel pump differences?

do fuel pumps interchange on all 200ci and 250ci models?

I was told there are rebuildable pumps that can be taken apart completely. I love to take apart things, whether they are in need of service or not... whoever said "if it ain´t broken, don´t fix it" just doesn´t get it... :D

Any suggestions (manufacturer, flow numbers, servicability) for a new fuel pump? I´m not planning for a high horsepower mill, just the best and most precautious bulletproof stock rebuild that can still be called a "stock" rebuild... know what I mean...

Hi,

Yes, ALL fuel pumps from 144/170/200/250s are interchangeable.

The Falcon 144 and some of the 170 pumps are a dual action pump that creates vacuum for the wipers. Definitely NOT a performance item.

Next came a pump with the filter canister attached. Lots of them around.

Then came a plain old pump. That's what I use. The kid at NAPA wanted a part number, so I told him 1978 A/C Fairmont.

As far as we know there are no psi or volume numbers available. There is no known hi-volume pump.

Playing is good!! I always thought the saying was, "If it ain't broke, then break it!" or "If it ain't broke, then what are you waiting for?"

Let us all know if you find out any thing about fuel pump numbers.

Good Luck

I plan on using a generic electric fuel pump that puts out 7lbs pressure for US carbs. If its a Weber or 5200 it might take 5lbs pressure. You can use a 302 W fuel pump block off plate.

I have vacuum wipers. I had a 170. I bought a new fuel pump with the vacuum diafragm on top. this is an excellent pump and totally rebuildable and cost me about 90 bucks. It worked great. I swapped out the 170 for a 250, the lever that runs off the cam was a totally different size ( shorter) and it ran off the top of the cam instead of off the bottom. The one pump fits all didnt work for me. Now my great 170 pump(only used 2 months)sits on the shelf and I run one of those crappy unrebuildable canister jobs. It pumps gas just as well and my eyes get great excercise looking thru all the rain drops every time I push down on the gas pedal. oh yeah-and Im out 90 bucks. Have fun...... Marlin.
