Fuel Pump

I have a fuel pump I would like to install in my 61 Comet, 144 engine. It is the type with the glass bottom. The fuel pump already in the car has 4 connections. Two for the fuel and two for the wipers. The replacement only has 2, for the fuel? The pump box says it goes in a 61 Comet and the metal tag on the pump itself says it is the right pump to be in that box. Can someone explain why it does not have the connections for the wipers? Was there two configurations? Can I still use it?

On my fuel pump it has two connections on top. One for fuel and one for wipers. It should say on top which connection is for the wipers. My fuel pump doesn't have a glass bottom though. Yours might be a pump for a car with electric wipers.

Excuse my ignorance...does the 61 Comet actually use fuel to run it's wiper motors? Is it some kind of hydraulic motor?

I am appointing myself the board expert on these vacuum type pumps on the grounds that I have replaced three of them on the same car in one week.

The reason you have a 4-holer is because you have a dual action pump.
The bottom with the stylish glass bowl is to recieve (lower fitting) then pump out (upper fitting, though still on the lower section) delicious fuel to your starving carburettor.

The top section has one fitting (closest to the block) that carries the vacuum hose from either the carb or the intake manifold, while the other recieves the rubber hose that goes to the wiper motor.

You probably DO have the right pump for a your make and model, but the two holer was used in cars that were optioned with the weenie electric drizzle flippers.

And don't be surprised to find that you have to try a couple of different pumps to find one that works, since the new ones are from the worker's paradise that is Canada.

Your probrubly confused with one saying manifold (not fuel) and the other saying wipers.. the one marked manifold would go to the manifold to supply vacuum and the other to the wipers, it goes thourgh the so the pump can supply some vacuum when the motor is under load (low vacuum times)..

You need to return that pump and get one for vacuum wipers, they did make two different kinds a few cars came with elect wipers.

Thanks for the advice. I got just as many options as I have connections to the fule pump between thiw forum and the comet list! The bottom line is I have four lines to connect and only two connections on the pump, so it is not the exact fit for this car. I really like the glass bottom on this thing and it would have made a great addition to my engine and engine compartment restoration. Now I would like to find a glass bottom pump with four connections!

The pump has two purposes. One part of it pumps fuel to the carb and the other part helps the vacuum from the manifold in working the wipers. The wiper part is not fluid.
