I just installed the Flamethrower II coil on my 200. I also have the ignitor ignition. What should I set the gap on the spark plugs at? I usually just put the plugs in without checking the gap.
I'd suggest .050" and assess from there. If you get a rough idle or a high speed miss, check the plugs. It may require a colder plug, or a .045" gap. What's the rest of the engine? Cam? Trans? what plug? What distributor/carb combo?
It is a 200 bored .040 with 3 speed trans and the Holley/Weber 2v carb from stovebolt. I have motorcraft plugs and stock distributor with the ignitor setup.
YOur stock OEM distributor is a Load-O-Matic with a vacuum advance only activated by a modified vacuum signal from an Autolite 1100 with a Spark Control Valve to correctly advance the spark. Your H/W does not have a SCV. It has a ported vacuum source. It will not send the correct advance signal to your LoM distributor.
The best/simplist solution will be to find and install a '68 and later distributor. Opening tHe gap of the spark plugs will not fix this mis-match.
