gear ratio on fox bodied 6?

I am looking for a cheap 7.5 rear with something around a 3.08 gear in it and the small 4 lug (pinto, fox) pattern for a project and was wondeirng what gear ratio was in the ltd's and fairmont's that had sixes. there a few at the local yards with the low mount starter if that makes a difference.

The LTD's & Fairmonts that had sixes in them with auto tranny's had a 2:76 ratio.
From 1981 to 1985 the V-8 Mustangs with manual tranny's had the 3:08 ratio 7.5 inch rear & the automatic models eithier had 3:08 or 3:27 ratio.

Some 4 cyl. 5 sp. Mustangs had the 3:27 ratio as well. Thats where I got mine from for my 1981 Mustang.

In 1986 they came out with the 8.8 rear & it had eithier the 3:08 or 3:27 ratio.

Some 4 cyl. 5 speed Rangers had the 7.5 rear with a 3:45 ratio.

Hope this info helps..................

In 85 the standard rear ratio with the V8 Mustang and Capri was a 2.73. From what I read the Capri was stuck with the 2.73 in 85-86 because of the bubble back hatch making it a little heavier than the stang,, and needing to meet EPA regulations. I do think some V8s in 82,83,84 might have had optional 3.45 rears,,, I could be wrong on that one.

be careful, a bunch of those 4 and 6 fox bodies came with 6.75 rears.and like mine i exploded at the light. ck the tag on the covers it will identify the rear and the ratio. ck the aerostars as many came with 3.73 posi units.

well the ratio I am looking for is a 3.27 and not really wanting a posi (real pain in winter) I got a lead on a cheap 8.8 3.27 open rear from an lsc but from what I am hearing it will need shortened

My 83 5.0 GT 5spd came with 3.27's from the factory, and the 84 4cyl 4spd I just got rid of had 3.45 from the factory.
v8's came with 2.73's and 3.08's for the most part, with the 3.27's being an option few ticked off. Fours came with 3.45's although I did see a 3.73 4 cyl which was supposed to be stock. I'm not sure though so I wouldn't say.
I put 3.45's from a 4cyl mustang in a 302 zepher which had 2.73 originaly, wow what a difference! (little 195/14's would roast on command after the swap)!
