Gearbox installation

Here's the drum...

I scored a low mileage 3 speed box from behind a 250-2V. Original (?) oil is still quite clean. No leakage around selector shafts, rear seal, top cover or extension housing. I plan to paint the front section, aquabrade / clearcoat the extension and install it - just a quick tart up in my book.

BUT - I want to use it behind a 4 main 170 in my XM wagon, for now! The 221 will come $4K later, when the first buildup is done.

Do I use the "Smallback" type adaptor plate, with a cable clutch bellhousing, do a hydraulic with the large original 2V bellhousing and adaptor, or use the original clutch / bellhousing and get another type of adaptor to sandwich between the bellhousing and gearbox?

What will be the case with my driveshaft and spigot bush?

Planning to use a CRS rear mount, maybe with a urethane block instead of good ol' rubber. Hope some of the "vets" can offer tips to follow. It will be nice to throw out that clunky non-synchro piece of rubbish.

Thanks, Adam.

Years ago I bought an XP Fairmont in mint condition for $180, it had a 4 main 200ci six with BW35 auto behind it. When I got the donk out to shove in a 250-2v and C4 i found that the 200six was a small bellhousing block, but the auto was a big housing tranny. It had a plate about 8mm thick to adapt between the two, if you could find one your away.
However heares another go, get the manual tranny housing for the 170, and check out if the BW speeder with go close to bolt holes, it might!
Other that that try www.rodshop.com he might have something.
