and Purple Hornies are pretty cheap, $38 each i think?

how is that sytem set up, are the purple hornies more towards the tailpipes or the collectors, or middle, also is there a header installed.... thats the exact sound im looking for... and i'd love to copy it! Thanks for the help,

Chris
as was stated, the source of that post is Other Evan (i'm just plain Evan, unless you talk to him, and then he's Evan and i'm Other Evan)

you'd have to talk to him 'bout it

how do i talk with him, im sort of new to the forum so bare with me...

The position of ´whatever kinda muffler definitely seems to be a factor. Don´t ask me how this will affect sound - I´m only sure it will. Somehow at least.

On the other hand, we don´t have too many choices for a standard sized muffler housing on a mustang - there´s some space behind the front torque box, behind the seat platform right in front of the rear axle, and the standard location for the six cylinder exhaust muffler- sandwiched between the rear axle and gas tank.

Personally, I don´t like the thought of a hot muffler right next to my gas tank... not that I fear blowing up or such... it just doesn´t seem right

backyardpb,

what turbo mufflers did you use? Generic? Sounds like you had the sound like I want now. My flows 50s are too loud.

Slade

where is the sample? i want to hear it too!

A bunch of the V6 and V8 SHO guys like the Summit Turbos. At $15 a piece, it can't hurt to try one. Believe it or not, they are actually quite a good muffler (for a non-stainless design.) I have a pair in the garage waiting to be installed on the SHO.

so i guess the reason my glasspack sounded so crappy was cause i put it around where the cat normally is.....is it possible to get the small sixes (the 250 at least) sounding like that bigblock six, i dont care how loud it is cause that sounds sweet....way better than my straight pipe...cleaner at least...

 geez mine sounded pretty ricy with a glass pack....if i put the muffler as close to the back as possible will it be a nice sound like that...i didnt know it made such a difference in where u place it...i think i would love my car even more if i got it sounding like that....

Well, I have gave this issue some more thought. I'm thinking of buying some Purple Hornies and try them out. If it doesn't sound right, I can always change them out to some mufflers. I figure glass packs are the closing thing to straight pipes. On the other hand, if glass packs are too raspy, ricey, or high pitched then I don't want that. I've looked back at my notes and my choice for mufflers is Dynomax Super Turbos. At least I know that muffler has a tone I am looking for.

has anyone tried to dimple the exhaust pipe (like the factory did in the old 302 z cameros with no muffler) and run with out a muffler .As i remember they were'nt horribly loud , but it sure sounds cheap ,i have no idea about how scientific the depression placements would heve to be but what the heck ,a ball peen hammer and some trial and error time ,might just find a cool alternative to a muffler and save a few pounds to boot
