for exhaust I am just running a t3 turbo and a 2.5" down pipe that goes to 2" mandral bend out th eback bumper.....no mufflers at all. fairly quiet even

.... Anybody in a muffler shop would look at you like you were out of your mind.

HMMMMMMMM...

They might be right ! :?

The Comet is a platform to test some (crazy)ideas and is also a tribute to many of the hot/street/road rods' built in backyards like mine that I dreamed about on the covers of magazines as a kid.

he morons in the muffler shop welded on the headers to the exhaust piping. In the future I'll add flanges in there to make removal easier

The guy who did my exhaust piping did the same thing. If I knew better when I had my exhaust installed I would have gone with 2.25" pipes and told them to add flanges. Now I'll have to cut through the pipe when I need to remove the header.

You can run your exhaust out the side in front of the rear wheels! Challenger T/A, AAR Cuda and some of the Shelbys ran their exhaust exactly like that.

Nahh, I like what you're doing. I've thought about similar things myself. The Christmas lights were extra fun...it's nice to see somebody just have fun with their car.

So does Linc with the turbo Mustang! I think that'd be better all-around than directly behind the front wheel.

HMMM ... debating in front or behind the front wheel ... i think the bend would be difficult to get in front of front wheel .. plus the mounting??? :?

When I redo my exhaust it's going to exit in front of the rear wheels. I love that look.

So how will you mount it? "

"If you mean how will you mount the pipes and mufflers:

It's not difficult but you must think of exhaust pipes' as a "floating " system. Start by purchasing the rubber strap hangars in a variety anfd work from there. There are lots of variations as well. The pipes can be bought as others mentioned in various angle of bends as well as Straight sections. Use only Heavy Duty clamps because they can be opened again and they don't break before sealing tight enough. If you are just "hanging" an already clamped together sytem, the rubber suspension clamps don't need to be too tight anyway.

Be creative and you can split or combine as well as have custom exit points.

Hey Steve-O = Who bent those pipes up for the Xover piece. That's a frickin work of art.

I'm considering Supertrapps. Mostly because they look cool :P and you can tune them (maybe, have to read the reviews)

I have my exahust dumping out in front of the rear passenger wheel. As of now I have the stock exhaust manifold (ugh) going back to a non Delta Flow 40 Series Flowmaster with 2.25 inch ins and outs...2.25 in pipe running back, cutting to the right side on an angle, with a chrome splitter tip exiting just ahead of the rear wheel. It sticks out just far enough that when you look at the body area, you can see the tops of the tips reflecting in the body.
All total for muffler, tip, and exhaust shop to weld the pipes was about $140 (60 for muffler, 20 for tip, 60 for welding)

idk if this was touched i skimmed. but having the exhaust exit under the cabin of the car is illegal. sumthing to do with carbon monoxide gases and crap.

i caint wait to tear into my 6 its just so hard with no money and no place to work on it

i was originaly going to put in a custom exhaust myself so i cut of the exhaust and was just running the exhaust manifold with the pipe coming down and under all original... well with the pipe just like that open and strait out of the manifold for the three weeks i had it like that it ran like crap... i then got a flowmaster american thunder 40 series put it in and had it welded and now it runs fine and sounds awesome! i would defently look at runing duals and if u want it to come out the sides do it out in front of the rear tires... good luck!

ac66bronco,
At least in PA, having exit under the cabin is illegal...due in part to the the exhaust gases...it must also exit the body...for pickups this means you cannot simply "dump" the exhaust after the cab.
If you plan on exiting the exhaust in front of the rear wheels, make sure you have a copy of your state's exhaust inspection laws. My Fairlane was almost failed due to the exhaust setup...one of the only reasons it didn't is because I have a friend certified to do PA state inspections/emissions inspections and he gave me a copy of the exhaust laws and with that I was able to prove to the inspection shop that I was in the legal boundaries for three reasons...1)It was not a side pipe...2)it exited the body and 3)it exited basically just at the line of where the passenger compartment ended.
If you want to do something similar there is one major thing to keep in mind....do not be an a** about it. If you are, it will probably tick the guy off and he will fail you and you won't have any recourse. Be polite about it. Also, it helps if the guy is big into the older cars and high performance cars.
And if you are questioned about the exhaust by the inspection guy, it probably wouldn't hurt to carry around a photocopy of that page of the inspection manual in your glovebox in case the police should stop you. Ignorance of the law is not a valid excuse.

Ditto. Lots of states do not allow exit in front of rear wheels unless you can prove it came from the factory that way. I.E., 1997 Ford F-150 and 200 Cobra R.

Most places will pass you as long as the exhaust looks legit and is as far back to the rear whel as you can get. Exiting behind the FRONT wheel won't pass in any state that has inspections.

My tailpipe fell off a couple days ago. Stock fairmont, except that the cat's gone.
Instead of running the replacement out the driver side, back of the wheel, we ran it straight out the back. Two fewer bends and less complicated.

Not so far, and this thread's pretty old so it seems to have held up.
Although it's probably time for a new muffler... :P
