well as the title says i got the weber on. the car did start and run idled ok would even take throttle a bit.when i hit the secondary it just died. now i am sure it needs some sort of jetting done and i have no idea what is in it. i am not sure as to what or where to start. do i need to do the accelerator pump jet or just the mains idles and correctors?i have read the stickys but my head is spinning.this may help my set up is a 68 block/head with a stock dizzy dual out headers 2.25 "flowmaster 40s.i will try to post pics of my set up for alittle engine porn lol.

Welcome to the W32/36 - H/W5200 fan club. First, was the engine running well before the 2Bbl?. Is the carb new or new to you?. Relax and re-read the stickys' , there's a few simple ways to proceed and you may find a relevant hint. Probably a good idea to carefully open it up and find out the current jetting and internal condition.

I have one H/W 5200 (dirty used E-bay pick), that runs great with any size jets on my 170 and a "rebuilt" I can't get to run decent even with jets from the good runner ???.

( They say Carburetor is French for Don't F&^% with it ....)

Have Fun

I had some problems with mine, but it was too much fuel.

If that is the case, check your fuel pressure and your float level. I had to install a FP regulator and set it at 3psi. The float was also way out which caused me some similar problems. Once I got that corrected, it was fairly easy to adjust with a vac gauge.

Guys she was running good before. Engine only has 11000 miles on her. Are all of the jets in the bowl and under the top cover? Also Buc love your car then again it does look suspiciously looks like mine.

Thanks for the kind words about the car.

Mine has 64k original miles and I am the second owner. Mine was running great before the change as well, and it took me a bit to figure mine out. Keep at the carb issue, and you will get it.

Check out this link, see if it helps:

Also, do you have a vacuum gauge? I went and bought one from Harbor Freight for about $9, and for me, its worth its weight in gold. For me, with a difficult balancer, it made setting both the timing and adjusting the carb much easier.

You can check the accelerator pump by looking down the carb and seeing if it squirts gas when you step on it. Do this with the engine off, please, as a backfire might toast your eyebrows. Otherwise I'd guess you are lean on the secondary and hitting a big flat spot which kills the engine.

However, you should start with the "lean best idle adjustment" {http://www.redlineweber.com/html/Tech/carburetor_set_up_and_lean_best_.htm} to get an idea of whether your primary jet is close to right (needn't be exact). Contrary to the instruction sheet, do complement this process with a vacuum gauge as it will help you hone in the ideal baseline setting. If you are good on the primary and the pump jet is working, then I'd bump up the secondary two to four sizes and see what happens. Best to invest in a jetting kit: http://www.racetep.com/rebuildrejet.html

All of that said, I've found the only truly practical way to jet a carb is to install a wideband oxygen sensor. It just takes so much guesswork out of the process, and gives you a real reading that can help you learn so much about what works and what doesn't on the carb. I use the AEM UEGO and love it: http://www.racetep.com/halmeter.html

Thanks guys. I actually feel really dumb saying this but she was outta fuel  . I got her out on the road today with fuel in the tank and she ran really well. She pulls alot harder than when I had the autolite on her. Not sure if it is jetted 100 % right or not but at idle she smells rich. No pinging under hard acceleration so i guess she is close. The car now shifts at 45 to 47 mph first to second at around 4800 rpm according to my tach :D . Here r a few pics of the final install. Excuse my dirty engine bay it needs a bath bad under there mostly dust from sitting.

Nice work!

Holy cow, you weren't kidding about our cars being similar. Its like looking at my own engine compartment.

So are you running a fuel pressure regulator out of the stock fuel pump or what? Like what is that thing on the firewall. The whole arrangement looks really shart, by the way. I have been thinking of doing something like this and I don't want to starve out the 2bbl.

Wow, that regulator and FP gauge are almost exactly where I put mine in the 'chero.
Great minds think alike I guess.

Reading this thread, I'm guessing I'm gonna have a lot of fun(sarcasm) dialing in my 38/38 when it finally hits the road. Oh well, that's hot rods...

Ludwig yes I am using the stock pump with the a redline regulator. I bent a 90' bend on it then went to the rubber fuel line. If my car is starving for fuel you wouldnt know it the way she is runnin. Way better than with my 1100 which is probably 7-8 yr old pony carb. Even with them helping the old autolite out she still didnt run this good. The flat spots are pretty much gone.

Phantom yeah I guess great minds do think alike however I dnt feel like one lol. I wanted to center the reg up on the valve cover buy I am tryin not to do anything to my car that cant be reversed and make the car bone stock again within a few hours. Someday I may decide to go back but highly unlikely. Anyway the export brace bolt seemed great to use. I did take and put a 1in drop into the bracket "Z" shaped I am one of the lucky few with a sheet metal brake in their garage. I thought that the reg may be too close to the hood may be different on your chero idk. Good luck with it and let us know how you like the 38 I have a feelin that the 32/36 may just be a stepping stone to the 38 for me.
