grounding

What's the best way to add grounds to the 200, or find a bad ground somewhere? I wanna add some grounds and clear some stuff up.

Howdy,
All you need is one from the neg side of the battery to the block, and from the same location on the block, run one from there to the body. You could also add one to the frame but it is not really necessary. Make sure all your connection are clean. Good luck.

I have one from the battery neg to the alternator, one from the battery neg to the firewall (where I ground all interior stuff), and one from the block to the frame. Sounds like overkill, but it actually looks very clean, cheap to do, and grounding problems suck so cover all basis.

It can help to allow more gauge of wire in grounding, than for positive current.

Cheers, Adam.

Sounds good. I have all day tomorrow to work on that. I'm wondering where I'm going to ground it to the body. When you add grounds, if there's a bad ground somewhere, can that clear that up? I basically don't want my lights getting brighter when I accelerate, and things like that. =)

Lights should only vary with motor speed if the battery is nearly flat, or the car is fitted with a generator.

If you buy an volts/ohm meter (digital type) it is immensely useful for checking electrical stuff. Shouldn't run you more than $60 for a Fluke copy with lots of settings. Here's mine doing a non-automotive diagnosis:

It doesn't do dwell or timing, but covers most other bases.

Cheers, Adam.

Ah-ha. Well when my first battery died, I bought this new one. Then it almost died on me, when I figured out that I didn't have the wire from the solenoid to the alternator battery terminal hooked up, so it wasn't charging the battery. Should I charge up the battery with a charger?

If you have the time and facilities, yes - will be cheaper than driving about the place to charge it!

Well my carb is all apart right now, soaking in the good stuff, so now might be a perfect time to hook up my charger and have at it. The little one barrels are so fun to rebuild! =)
