Hard starting

Ive noticed since I did the ring and valve job that when the car sits for a couple of days that I have to pour a little gas down the carb to get it to fire up. After that its good to go until it sits again for a few days. The only thing I can think of is that the gas is evaporating out of the fuel bowl. I thought perhaps the float is not set high enough but wouldn't effect the car all the time?

I always have to pump the gas pedal to get 'er going.

What type carburetor?

I pump the living hell out of it and then when I pull the breather off I can't see any gas. Will have to check to see what carb but I know its brand new.

8) an empty float bowl usually indicates an internal leak. you can solve the issue with an electric fuel pump, or go through the carb and seal any passage plugs, as well as pu tin new gaskets.

you wouldn't believe how many new/reman carbs aren't done right. it would definately help to open it up and make sure everything is right.
on that note, [rant] i find it dumb that most parts stores void the warranty on the carb if youve opened it, but adjustments are usually required to make it run right. so its "yes we built it wrong, and you couldn't fix it, so too bad, you tried so its yours" [/rant]

You have several options, two of which are:

#1. Fix the carb
#2. Install an electric fuel pump which will be able to re-fill the carb before attempting to start the engine.

Its a new carb what would need fixing? The mechanical pump should be able to top off the fuel bowl with a few cranks since the filter in front of the carb is full of fuel at least you would think.
