harmonic dampner pulley

i have a 200 I6 that i just swapped into my 66 mustang. the new engine has an existing power steering pulley on the crank against the pulley that drives the pump and alternator.(double V pulley) my car does not have power steering and i dont like looking at the open pulley. MY question is : is the double v pulley one unit or two single pulleys side by side? what do you have to do to remove the single pulley if so? Does the harmonic balancer need to be removed or do the pulleys come off separately.

The power steering pulley should simply unbolt from the balancer. There are probably 3 or 4 bolts that go through the PS pulley into the balancer.

Remove the bolts, tap off the pulley. Sell on eBay.

do you think there are two separate pulleys that are butted together or do you think the factory installed a (single) double V pulley. I Guess there is one way to find out.anyone ran into this and would know?

I have seen photos on this site of what looks like a standard single groove pulley with another pulley bolted to it. The 2 grooves I have personally seen have been one piece and dont have any sort of bolts in them.

There are 2 types:

I have a set that bolts onto the damper and another set that is a dual integral setup.
Somewhere Ford changed from one to the other.
I will look at casting numbers later to see. I do know that many early single dampers had a casting of C2 on them

I checked today . there are 3 bolts (not including the crank bolt)going thru the front of the pulley. do i have to remove the crank bolt to remove the pulley or just the 3 other bolts?

Here are some more casting numbers:

Single groove C6DE
Bolt on pulley CAIN 1016--6

Double groove(1 piece) C8DE

Could possibly be either. The bolt on pulley was used to add refrigeration later without having to pull the damper.
Anyone that has any dampers, 1 or 2 groove, or bolt ons please chime in.

Yup, mine is three and it bolts on because of the AC, I guess? Either or, 68 Mustang 200 auto with AC and power steering.

And yes, if it comes apart sell it ;)

does the crank bolt need to be removed to remove the pulley along with the 3 bolts?? I just hate to try to break it loose due to Murphy's law.
i hope that only the three bolts need to be removed. everything purrs and runs great . no problems. just would'nt want to shear off a crank bolt. worry wart.
i might just leave it alone.

If I remember right, no it does not. Try taking the three out and "encourage" it to come off with a rubber mallet. I'm pretty sure I added mine after the fact because I had two engines I was working at the same time. I realized I needed the pulley after the engine was in and I started adding everything back in. Fortunately, I had thrown it under the bench as a "not sure if I'll need this part".

Frank:

I have that setup that was taken off of a 200 some time ago. Just remove the 3 bolts and the outside pulley comes off. It is a slip fit onto the damper.
You may need to shoot some WD40 or PBBlaster to loosen any crud built up. The nose that fits into the damper is only about 3/8 inch.
