I heard a rumor of a list of composite head gasket compressed thicknesses. Does this list exist, if so where might I get a hold of it? I just ordered a head set, so maybe in there I will find the specs?

Nobody? Alright rephrase, I just bought via eBay a Mccord gasket set (composite). Does anybody have a compressed thickness spec for this head gasket?

I remember seeing something in a thread here, but did a search to no avail. :(
I'm pretty sure it was in a post by CZLN6, though!

Howdy Back:

The only currently available composite head gaskets we have been able to get an measure are the Fel Pro, Corteco and Victor. The specs we have are manufactures thickness and compressed thickness.

FelPro .055" .050"
Victor (NAPA) .046" .044"
Corteco .057" .050"

We have not seen or been able to measure a McCord head gasket. Are they commonly available? Where from? If you have one, please report any manufactures specs. And/or measure it yourself and please post the info.

Sorry, That's all we have.

Adios, David

I found it on eBay, when I get it I will record the part # and measure the thicness, now for the big question how do I measure the compressed thickness?

Howdy:

A simplier possibility is that the manufacture will inclose the compressed thickness in the package. If it is not there try to find a web site or email them for compressed specs. IF that fails mugsy and Wallaka's suggestions will work.

A generality/estimate is that a composite gasket will compress between .002" to .007" at factory spec torque readings.

I have not seen a McCord gasket and would really appreciate it if you could photo and post it here. Also, Does anyone know of a source/distributor of McCord gaskets?

Adios, David

Well I got my head set in yesterday, and the gasket was a standard Felpro 7916 PT-1 which has a compressed thickness of 0.050". Thanks for all the help anyways guys!
