Head swap

I was recently at a car show with my mustang and a guy at the show started telling me that a good way to put a new head on the 250 was to get 2 302 heads, cut the last cylinder off of each one, and weld them together. Is this true or was this guy just an idiot.

While this is far beyond my technical expertise, my rule is if it were that simple, more people would be doing it.

There may be a way to do this but I can't see how someone could weld the inner "walls" and passages together. Just doesn't seem feasible to me.

aw shucks that sounds like it'd be real easy and just the way to go. I bet all the water passages and oil journals will line up perfect to the block as well as the cam lobes and push rod ports, etc.

PS i was brought up in the Adirondack Mts. where sarcasam is more than a form of communication--it is considered art.

waht would be the added advantage to that, in his opinion?

more cubes?

On a somewhat related note:
The machinist I know, while working on my D7XX head told me about a project he did with a 300 (BB Six) . It involved adapting 302 heads to the 300 block. He said the engine is used in a dragster campaigning in the NE.
I wasn't too interested as I was deep in the work I had at hand but it did stick in my mind.

Powerband 8)

So many choices or thoughts have been posted................yet no solid modified heads have ever been done that I have sen.

I recently tore down a 250 for my next project motor. Just for kicks,
I grabbed an old SBF head that was lying around and set it up on the
block. Bore spacing, bolt holes, water jackets, etc. all were way off!
Yes, that guy is nuts. Or he is merely confused. Apparently, small
block heads as well as Cleveland/ modified heads do bolt onto 300's.
Saw a Cleveland headed 300 in a dragster once at the track.

Thanks for all the advice. From the sound of it, it doesnt really sound like it would be worth the trouble even if it were possible. Would anyone have any advise as to what would be the the best and most cost effective head to put onto a 250. if so where could i find it.
