Header Recommendation?

Hi,

I need to change out my old and too low Clifford headers (have always been prone to scrubbing the road and speed bumps). I have what I'm pretty sure is a 250 in my 1969 Mustang, with low starter, and I have A/C. I'm hoping to find a solution that fits easily. Any suggestions?

BTW, I have the Clifford port divider installed, but plan to pull it out because it rattles (at least I think that's what's rattling) somewhere between 55-60 mph. Is that divider really beneficial?

Thanks for any help!

Thanks, but I already pored over those pages before I posted. Depending on how I read the application table, I don't think the FSPP version will fit my application (have the low starter). :(

yeah, i was considering getting those, but i havent been able to talk to anyone who's used them. I dont think anyone here has them, i asked about them before. but according to the discription they fit anything you can think of so I dont know.

They'll fit the ENGINE, but will they fit in the CAR? That's the question.

agreed. I'm sure a part comming from a place called mustangs unlimited has been test fitted on a mustang or two, but have they really taken the time to try them on all those other cars? They look short enough not to really get in the way of anything but who knows?

i emailed the company and they said they had a 90 day return policy...
if they dont fit... return them.
i MAY try this route... i could be out a little coin if i have to return them but at least i will know! AND i will let you all know too.

i still have to make up my mind if i want headers or a 68-70 manifold.

what could a stock manifold offer that a header doesnt? If you want to give me your old header i'll give you my 250 manifold :D

The one I'm using looks just like the one posted in 250Mav's link. It hits the bellhousing right next to the low-mount starter. I took a torch and hydralic jack to gain the needed clearance. Also, the welding on those things suck! I'd have to dig out my reciept, but I'm almost certain I bought off of Ebay from Mustang Unlimited.
Keep the reciept and return if it doesn't fit. Now these headers look interesting:

Got mine today, hope to get a chance to work on it this weekend. I think I can live with the welding, but (just by eyeballing them) it looks like there will be a clearance problem with the shock tower (dunno about the bellhousing). Any tips you can share from your torch/hydraulic experience???

Thanks,
James

Er, slight correction - I looked again, this time I used a drop light too! :) I didn't notice earlier that the header flange is at an angle, so I *THINK* I'll clear the shock tower. But now I wonder about the bell housing, some 'persuasion' may be required to make it fit.

Hard to say until you actually get it in there. Personally, I wouldn't recommend doing what i did to make it fit. The exhaust manifold bolt flange, where you screw the farthest most bolt at the rear of the engine into the head (know whatta I mean), it was helicoiled and cracked like the light of dawn when I reinstalled the header.
I'll post some pictures when I get a chance. Basically, while i had the engine on a stand, tilted on it's side and wedged a floor jack between the header with a block of wood and the motor taking care not to dent the oil pan. The header was bolted on with no gasket using every bolt and well tightened and I still cracked the bolt flange. I don't recommend my hillbilly ways...

FYI Look at Cliffords version of that header and the Mustang Unlimited version see any resemblance?????
