Heater Hose Question

Howdy all.

I have two different 6 cylinder engine blocks laying here, and I am
trying to create one good running engine from the parts...

The 170 has a 5/8 heater hose that runs from the top of the water pump
over to the front of the carburetor. But the hose is cut in the middle
into two pieces - as if something else is supposed to go in there.

The 200 has the same setup, except that the hoses are 3/4 size, and there
is a plastic T fitting in between the two pieces of hose, and the T has a
brass cap on what looks to be a garden hose type fitting.

What is all this stuff? Does there need to be a T in that location?

Thanks,

-Zim

the T is just a aftermarket item for flushing the system.

lagrasta, what's up? that is another question i was going to ask. can i do away with the carb spacer mentioned for cooler intake and mount my carb holley 300 cfm directly to the log or a dry adapter? i probably won't drive the rancero every nday. if i have to keep the spacer what is the best way to block it off? or do i need to.if i could do away with this one i could have a better choice of breathers. i am getting closer to the changeout, so i'll be full of questions. thanks, pete

The carb spacer functions as a heat source to vaporize the fuel by routing hot water through the spacer to the heater core. In hot weather climates, it is not really functional. In some applications, it also contains the PCV return to the manifold.

It also has the linkage pivot post to which the carb linkage attaches. You can always bypass it with different linkage. Also, there are issues with clearance on the bottom of the linkage rubbing against the exhaust manifold if you remove the spacer. This all depends on what type of linkage you are going to use. Experiment with it.
